Four Cafes with Comfy Seating in Athens

Athens has many trendy cafes, but sometimes it feels like the cooler the café, the more uncomfortable the seating! Whether you’re out with friends, family, or just grabbing a quick coffee, we’ve found four cafes in Athens that have comfy seating and great food and drinks to boot.

In the lower plateia of Agia Paraskevi, Etsi kai Allios (Evergetou Giavasi 11; 2106001020) is perfect for a family outing. They have comfy booths and chairs and a wide range of kid-friendly food, such as omelets, pastas, pizzas, and burgers. Their signature treats are their wide range of crepes and waffles. Try the vegetable crepe with cheese, mushrooms, and tomatoes, or the horiatiko crepe with cheese, eggs, and traditional Greek sausage.

Up in Vrilissia, Hobbs (Leoforos Pentelis 110; 2108037893) probably takes the cake for the comfiest seats in the city. This cozy café is filled with quirky decorations, soft seats, and an upper floor filled with soft leather couches. Their menu has a wide variety of Greek American-style dishes; try the chicken club sandwich or the grilled cheese with whole wheat bread. And don’t leave without trying their divine cheesecake or apple pie.

For a treat downtown, head to Upper (Leoforos Vasilissis Amalias 4; 2114065081) in Syntagma. This bistro and bar is decked out in vintage furniture, including comfy, colorful couches. They specialize in brunch, featuring quiche Lorraine, bagels, French toast, and other elegant delights. You can also stop by at night for live music and a range of fun cocktails, including a deep red “mystery cocktail” (ask the barman to find out what’s in it).

Finally, down in Glyfada, OPUS Inner Pleasure (Pandoras 9; 2108980050) is a popular bistro for good food and comfy chairs. Enjoy pizza, whole-wheat pasta, sandwiches, and an array of fun drinks, from matcha tea soya latte to the “purple cure” smoothie with soya milk, blueberries, avocado, and turmeric. It’s also a popular nightlife destination, attracting a trendy crowd and celebrities. Hint: On Thursday nights, they have an in-house sushi chef.

Here’s to better weather and better days ahead—time to start planning those spring outings!
